The European Society of Cardiology Congress presented a study that says people who drink four or more cups of coffee a day have a lower risk of death than those who do not. In this study, they followed over 20,000 individuals for over 10 years. Those who drank a lot of coffee were 64% less likely to die during that timeframe.
Because this study was just observational, they couldn’t scientifically prove that more coffee equals a longer life, just a correlation. Some believe that healthier people drink more caffeine. Caffeine does have antioxidants that play a role in disease prevention. Caffeine also curbs appetite which may help dieters eat less.
There are many theories out there as to why we see a correlation between drinking coffee and living longer. Either way, we do see a correlation. In other words, feel free to drink a latte coffee!
