You’ve heard the hype; doing fasted cardio is better for you than non-fasted cardio. I’ve done the research, and tested the theory. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, have never studied medicine or exercise, and really have no right to be giving any health advice. That being said, I’ve done my homework on the subject. So, I’ll be telling you of my experience with fasted cardio and why it worked for me.
Some research shows that when doing cardio in a fasted state you burn up to 20 percent more fat. That’s because when you sleep your body stores carbs and works on turning fat into fuel. Fasted cardio seems to work well for burning fat in stubborn areas (I’m talking to you, love handles). However, from what I’ve learned, fasted cardio works well when you don’t have much fat to lose already. It really is best for those ‘last to leave’ stubborn areas. If you have more fat to lose, high intensity interval training is the best to melt fat right off! I’ve been doing HIIT workouts for years, and in the comfort of my own home! The last thing I must mention is: if you are trying fasted cardio, be careful. Working out on an empty stomach may take some getting used to. If you are ever feeling light headed or dizzy, take a seat and eat something! Always listen to your body.
